PixelFloss

For you and your kid

Design a cross stitch pattern with your kid, then stitch it together.

PixelFloss is a free drawing tool you use side by side. Draw a little pixel picture in real DMC floss colors, and print a pattern made for beginners: a shopping list, a big chart, and a page for each color.

How it works

  1. 1Draw

A pixel-art mushroom drawn in the studio, shown as rows of red, white and dark brown cross stitches on a fabric grid.

    Draw it together

Start from a blank grid or one of the starter designs. Every color in the thread box is a real DMC floss number, so whatever you draw is something you can buy.

  2. 2Print

The printed cover page for the mushroom: a picture of the design, its size and hoop, and a table of five DMC threads with stitch and skein counts.

    Print the pattern

Page one is your shopping list: each DMC number, how many stitches and skeins, how much fabric to cut and which hoop to use. Then comes the whole chart.

  3. 3Stitch

A printed page for DMC 321 Red showing only the red stitches of the mushroom on a big grid, with an empty Done! box in the corner.

Stitch one color at a time

Each color gets its own page with only its stitches marked, like a paint-by-number. When a color is finished, your kid colors in the Done! box.

Why it works for beginners

  • Real DMC colors

All 454 DMC cotton floss colors, with a box of 40 easy favorites up front. The pattern tells you exactly which skeins to pick up.

  • Just a few colors

A meter counts colors as your kid draws and flags six or fewer as great for a first project. Fewer colors means fewer thread changes and fewer tangles.

  • A big-print chart

Designs run 16 to 40 stitches across, so the chart fills a letter page with big squares, clear symbols and a bold line every 10 stitches for counting.

  • One page per color

Each color gets its own page and a Done! box to color in. Checking off pages gives a beginner something to show for every sitting.
